Toyota 4Runner, long and wide, has a catchy, but at the same time familiar design. According to the developers, they deliberately made the 4Runner as similar as possible to the truck to give it a more “hardened, powerful look”. The base SR5 features extended mudguards with mudguards, a distinctive radiator grille, and standard roof racks. The Trail version, made in the style of an SUV, features a non-standard air intake in the hood, bumper trims, tinted front, and rear lights. The most expensive Limited version boasts a chrome grille, 20-inch wheels, and unusual paintwork with color accents.
The traditional SUV styling is combined with a robust body-on-frame design and two advanced four-wheel-drive systems. The SR5 and Trail versions are equipped with a two-speed “temporary” four-wheel drive, while the Toyota Foraner Limited version is equipped with a permanent four-wheel drive with a lockable center differential. By the way, in case of off-road conditions, an electronically locked rear differential is standard on the Trail version.
The interior of the Toyota 4Runner has become much more spacious. The finishes are of the highest quality and the dashboard features a modernist design. All versions are richly equipped, and the list of options includes the Safety Connect telematics system, a rear-view monitor, leather-covered seats, a navigation system, and a choice of seven-seat cabin configuration. As before, the salon can accommodate 7 people.
Mitsubishi Pajero Sport 2019
Mitsubishi Pajero Sport – all-wheel-drive SUV of the “K2” class. An updated version of the third generation of the model debuted in Thailand in July 2019.
In the process of restyling, the Japanese SUV received a new face in the corporate style “Dynamic Shield” with two-story LED optics, a new radiator grille, bumper, as well as fenders and hood. The rear of the car retained its recognizability, but there were also some changes: an imitation of a diffuser was formed on the rear bumper, the taillights received a different “filling” and became more aesthetic, and a relief spoiler appeared above the fifth door. Due to such transformations, the updated Pajero Sport became 40 mm longer (4825 mm) and 30 mm higher (1835 mm), but the width (1815 mm), wheelbase (2800 mm), and even the ground clearance (218 mm) remained unchanged.
Inside this Mitsubishi, you will find a digital instrument cluster with an 8-inch display, an 8-inch touchscreen for the updated Mitsubishi Connect infotainment system, and a new climate control unit. In addition, the manufacturer took care of the decoration of the center console by adding soft linings and a small compartment for all the small things.
Will delight a more advanced active protection system, which was supplemented by the assistant for tracking the lane markings Lane Change Assist (LCA) and the rear cross-traffic warning system Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA). Another pleasant thing is the electric trunk drive (unlocked not only with a button but also with a wave of the leg) and remote control of the car via a smartphone. The owner using his gadget can remotely control various parameters, as well as open/close doors or trunk.
Technically Pajero Sport remained unchanged. It is still based on a frame structure with two wishbones at the front and a continuous spring-loaded axle at the rear. The four-wheel-drive system has not changed either, namely the Super Select II system (with an interaxle differential and the ability to turn off the front axle) with several off-road modes: “gravel”, “mud/snow”, “sand” and “stone”. The latter affect the operation of the brakes, engine, and transmission.
Under the hood of Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, as before, the diesel engine 2.4 (4N15) (181 hp 430 Nm) works, paired with an 8-speed “automatic” Aisin. At the same time, in some markets, the SUV is available with a 3-liter (6B31) aspirated gasoline engine (209 hp 279 Nm), and with an old 2.5 turbodiesel (4D56) (136 hp 324 Nm).
Mitsubishi Pajero Sport 2015
Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is a frame SUV of the “K2” class. The debut of the third generation of the model took place at the Bangkok Auto Show in August 2015.
The Japanese completely redrew the appearance of Pajero Sport, and this is not surprising. But here we, perhaps, will not talk about it, since the key and most interesting features of this car are not at all in design but in technology. For example, in a frame that has become stiffer. In addition, the suspensions have been redesigned for improved handling and stability, although schematically they remain the same – double wishbones at the front and a rigid axle with springs at the rear.
But that’s not all. The body of Pajero Sport has also become stiffer, and the list of options now includes systems for preventing frontal collisions, controlling “dead” zones, and eliminating impacts when parking (does not allow you to enter an obstacle if you accidentally press the gas). For the first time for Mitsubishi, an electronic parking brake has been implemented, all-round cameras, dual-zone climate control, heated steering wheel and second row of seats have appeared.
Under the hood of the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is a 2.4-liter 4N15 MIVEC diesel engine producing 181 hp. from. power and 430 Nm of torque. This unit is equipped with a turbocharger with variable geometry, variable valve timing, and a compression ratio reduced to 15.5: 1. When paired with 8-speed automatic transmission (with manual shift option), it uses 17% less fuel than the previous 2.5-liter engine.
As for the all-wheel-drive, in this case, there is a second-generation Super Select 4WD system with an interaxle differential and a two-stage “transfer case”.
The distribution of traction in normal conditions is 40:60 in favor of the rear axle. And if we talk about modes, then, among others, a new one has appeared – Off-Road with subroutines “gravel”, “mud/snow”, “sand” and “stone”. Choosing one of the programs affects both the transmission and the engine and brakes.
Mazda CX-9 – front- or all-wheel drive off-road vehicle of the “K3” class. The second generation of the model debuted at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November 2015.
Made in the KODO (“spirit of movement”) corporate style, the exterior of the Mazda CX-9 crossover is easily recognizable by its large radiator grille with double horizontal bars, a smooth aerodynamic cut of the front bumper, emphasized by a chrome insert, a streamlined profile with a narrow window line, a shiny belt connecting tapered LED taillights, a small tailgate spoiler, and neat chrome-plated round exhaust pipes. The SUV has slightly reduced its overall length relative to its predecessor to 5065 (-30 mm), while at the same time the engineers have increased the wheelbase to 2930 (+55 mm), thanks to which the interior space has become more.
Creating the second-generation CX-9 salon, Mazda engineers sought to emphasize the status of the car, thus the interior is made using high-quality plastic, high-quality leather, natural wood, and aluminum inserts, all of which are highlighted by soft background lighting along the entire perimeter of the interior. The comfortable CX-9 seats offer good ergonomics and excellent lateral support. The instrument panel is made in a modern minimalist style, in its center is a large screen of the Mazda Connect multimedia system vertically. In addition, the crossover has got an improved steering wheel, as well as a different instrument panel with three wells.
The Mazda CX-9 is powered by the latest generation 2.5-liter Skyactiv-G turbocharged petrol engine with 250 horsepower and 420 Nm of torque. The unit works in tandem with an automatic 6-speed gearbox.
Toyota Highlander 2019
Toyota Highlander – front- or all-wheel drive crossover class “K3”. The fourth generation of the model. The official presentation of the crossover took place at the New York Auto Show on April 17, 2019.
The generation changes radically influenced the external image of the crossover. Narrowing the head optics, giving the false radiator grille a strictly outlined shape of an inverted trapezoid, and also “lifting” the unpainted part of the front bumper quite high, the designers were able to give a rather “family” crossover in the previous generation a little even unnatural aggression. The reduced area of the side glazing with a falling line only enhances the image. Therefore, Highlander’s “profile” looks deliberately sporty.
Visual transformations are a reflection of the approach to technical changes: the crossover is built on a different platform, this is the modular TNGA-K, which we are familiar with from the Camry and RAV4 models. The body has become more rigid, in addition, according to the manufacturer, the level of sound insulation materials has improved. As for the dimensions, the length of the car increased to 4950 mm (60 mm was added) – the space was added just behind.
Considering that 3 rows of seats are already available in the basic configuration, the ability to move the second row by 30 mm due to the increase in length is an advantage for passengers in the third row. Actually, these three rows of seats can be implemented both in 8 seats and in 7 (the second row – two “captain’s chairs”). Behind the back of the third row of seats, 456 liters of luggage space is now available, if you fold the third row (60/40 proportion), we get 1150 liters.
Despite the emphasized aggressiveness of the image, the Highlander is positioned primarily as a family crossover, as evidenced by the presence of three rows of seats in the basic configuration. That is why one of the main accents for such a car should be safety. For the Highlander – even in the “base” – the Safety Sense 2.0 package is available, which includes collision avoidance (with pedestrian recognition), lane keeping, automatic light switching, sign recognition, and dynamic cruise control. In addition, among the equipment offered are systems for tracking blind spots, warnings when reversing, as well as an automatic braking system when parking.
There are two power plants available. The first is a 3.5-liter naturally aspirated V6 petrol engine producing 299 hp. and 357 Nm of torque. It implements the combined D-4S fuel injection, the Dual VVT-i phase change system, and the Start / Stop system. It is equipped with an 8-speed “automatic” Direct Shift, drive – either front or full. Moreover, there are two versions of the all-wheel-drive available. The simpler one is implemented in the form of a clutch capable of transmitting up to 50 percent of the torque to the rear wheels. The advanced system Dynamic Torque Vectoring AWD, in addition to distributing torque between the axles, has clutches for each of the rear wheels, which allows for a more efficient distribution of traction. And the Multi-Terrain Select system allows you to choose between settings for riding on different surfaces (Mud & Sand or Rock & Dirt).
The second power plant is hybrid. It is a petrol 4-cylinder 2.5-liter DOHC engine paired with two electric motors. The total output of the installation is 243 liters. with., and fuel consumption – according to the American EPA cycle – is 6.9 liters. The battery is located under the rear sofa. The all-wheel-drive system in this version is implemented by an electric motor on the rear axle.
In the American market, 5 trim levels are offered for the Toyota Highlander: L, LE, XLE, Limited, and Platinum. Already in the base, 18-inch wheels, LED lights front and rear, 3-zone climate control, an electrically adjustable driver’s seat, and a multimedia system with an 8-inch touchscreen display are available. Each of the more expensive versions will, in one way or another, differ in both external details and interior. The top-of-the-line Platinum offers 20-inch wheels (a first for the model), leather seats and perforations, a 12.3-inch touchscreen display for the multimedia system, all-around cameras, and a 1200-watt JBL Premium audio system.
Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 2017
Toyota Land Cruiser Prado – all-wheel-drive SUV of the “K2” class. The second update of the Land Cruiser Prado J150 series. The world presentation of the modernized car took place in September 2017 at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
Despite the noticeable changes in the appearance of the car, technically the Land Cruiser Prado has remained the same: we will not find significant improvements in terms of power units, frame, suspension, and steering in this model. This means that he remained an “honest” frame SUV, which he is known in Ukraine: the same system of permanent all-wheel drive and “lowering”, ground clearance of 215 mm and, as before, the electronic system (in more expensive versions) Multi-terrain Select, the only change in which is the addition of an automatic mode.
Design innovations of the Land Cruiser Prado are noticeable both externally and inside the car. The first thing that catches your eye is the design of the front end: the bonnet with spectacular stamping, the changed shape of the headlights – now they are more strict, albeit in a simpler form. The radiator grille has changed – the vertical lines as a dominant remain, but at the same time, the “arcs” on the grille and their framing have changed. The front bumper has become much more expressive due to textured recesses, in addition, the shape of the foglights has ceased to be boring due to additional chrome inserts around. The “profile” and “stern” of the car have not changed, but an essential detail has been added – now the rear lights are equipped with LED brake lights. 17- and 18-inch wheels received a different design.
The design of the Prado’s main controls has been completely revised, although the architecture of the front panel remains the same: from top to bottom it is a multimedia system, air conditioning controls, and all-wheel-drive control unit and an off-road arsenal. The touch screen is now 8-inch, and the transmission settings are regulated by a washer (instead of the old rocker switches). Both niches at the bottom are covered with lids. The steering wheel looks more modern due to the non-parallel lower spokes.
Toyota Land Cruiser Prado engines remain the same: two gasoline engines and one diesel engine. The weakest – 2.7-liter petrol – develops 163 liters. from. and 246 Nm. Gasoline naturally aspirated V-shaped “six” of 4 liters has a return of 249 liters. from. and 381 Nm of torque. The 2.8-liter turbo diesel develops 177 liters. from. and 450 Nm of torque. With a smaller gasoline engine, they offer a 5-speed manual transmission, although a 6-speed manual transmission may also come from Europe. Other power units are equipped with a 6-speed “automatic”.
The SUV can boast of a fairly rich optional set: this is an adaptive suspension, an all-round vision system (4 cameras) with a “transparent hood” function (the front camera shoots 3 meters of the surface in front, and then projects the captured image using the contours of the wheels and body kit), rear seats (also front ventilation), steering wheel, the already mentioned multimedia system with an 8-inch screen and audio components from JBL, three-zone climate control. Among the electronic assistants is adaptive cruise control with an automatic braking and collision warning system, a system for recognizing signs and tracking lane markings, automatic switching of light to low.
Mitsubishi Pajero Wagon 2014
Mitsubishi Pajero Wagon is a five- or seven-seater all-wheel-drive SUV of the “K3” class. A restyled version of the fourth generation of the model debuted in August 2014.
The main difference between this version of the Pajero Wagon and the pre-styling one is visible to the naked eye. Japanese designers redrew the radiator grille, front bumper, wheels and spare wheel cover on the fifth door. There are even fewer changes in the interior, but the equipment of the SUV has been slightly adjusted. For example, daytime running lights have become available not only in top-end but also in mid-range trim levels. In addition, an automatic high beam switching system appeared in the list of options.
In all trim levels of the Mitsubishi Pajero Wagon, with the exception of the basic one, the audio system is equipped with a USB port, and the Instyle version has a rear-view camera, the image from which is displayed on the inner rear-view mirror. In addition, the modified 5-speed automatic transmission INVECS-II in the restyled Pajero is equipped with the Optimum Shift Control gearshift timing system, and the engines are equipped with electronics, which, in the case of simultaneous pressing of the accelerator and brake pedals, gives priority to the latter.
Pajero is equipped with an Advanced Super Select 4WD all-wheel-drive system. It allows you to switch from an economical one-axle drive to an all-wheel-drive directly while driving at speeds up to 100 km / h. If the ground under the wheels is viscous, the driver can engage the center differential lock so that the power is evenly distributed to both axles, and thus increase the tractive effort.
One of three engines can be installed under the hood of the Mitsubishi Pajero Wagon – a 3-liter gasoline V6 (178 hp, 261 Nm), a 3.8-liter unit of the same architecture (250 hp, 329 Nm), and also a 4-cylinder 200-horsepower 3.2-liter turbodiesel. The gearbox, depending on the engine, can be either 5-speed manual or automatic with the same number of gears.
